I love the feel of a Stratocaster but I’m also attracted to the hard driving sound of humbucking pickups. This guitar is designed to be both on a budget.
Includes examples comparing the Hot Rails Strat to an American Standard Strat and an Epiphone Special II
Keep in mind that all of this is through my camcorder mic and your computer speakers and with my particular playing style, but keeping all those the same we get a useful comparison. The HR 101 pickups don’t sound exactly like a humbucker, but they are thicker and crunchier through an overdrive than single coil. These are NOT the SHR 1 Hot Rails, but a less expensive version of the same idea. Keep in mind also that this is a Squier. It sell for about $280. You’re getting the whole guitar for a little less than the cost of the SHR pickups. If you have the capitol to lay down on a Fender with Seymor Duncan SHR 1 Hot Rails, do so. The results will be better. It’s important to shop around and do your research, but in the end you get what you pay for.
Affinity series Stratocaster by Fender
The main draw of this guitar is price. $180 (only $169 at the Doo Wop Shop where I got mine) gets you an honest to goodness Fender Stratocaster
Dressed in new eye-popping finishes, these Fender®-designed Stratocaster® guitars have a great look and feel. The Affinity Series Strat® guitar has all the vintage vibe at a fraction of the price. In the 80’s when Fender first started using Asian factories, we were all told to avoid them. These days, the guitars coming out of China, Indonesia, and Korea are affordable and playable.
